PHL back in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants List with Toyo Eatery in number 43

Toyo Eatery in Karrivin Plaza on Chino Roces in Makati is the only restaurant in the Philippines that landed in the prestigious Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants List of 2019.

It makes its Asia’s 50 Best debut at number 43, putting the Philippines back on the list.

The last time a Philippine restaurant entered the list was in 2017, with Gallery Vask in the 35th spot.

While the Philippines may have gone unnoticed in last year's list, Toyo Eatery raised our flag, having been selected the Miele One to Watch of 2018.

“Often using traditional cooking methods, Navarra has created tasting menus ranging from three to 11 dishes and the restaurant also offers ala carte options,” Asia’s 50 Best writes of the Jordy Navarra-helmed eatery, highlighting the Three-cut Pork BBQ Silog on the menu and calling it “a modern version of a popular street food, made at Toyo using three cuts of pork cooked over charcoal and finished in pork bone broth.”

Asia’s 50 Best also made a shoutout of Toyo’s excellent dessert duo comprised of the lightest Cassava Cake you’ll have yet and the interesting chocolate bonbons filled with fish-sauce salted caramel.

A pro-tip: Order the Bahay Kubo Salad as well; a cute starter featuring all the vegetables in the popular traditional song.

The awarding for Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants took place Tuesday evening at Macao’s Wyn Palace.

Singapore’s Odette topped the list, followed by Bangkok’s Gaggan at number 2 and Tokyo’s Den at number 3.

Congratulations to the winners! And mabuhay, Toyo! — LA, GMA News
